The 2005 edition of Connecting Educational Communities.

In addition to continuing our work in the schools, this year we began a new research initiative. Students gathered data on Guatemalan teaching methods, the life of the teachers, community demographics, etc. This is the beginning of a new focus for this project which we plan to expand on in coming years. We also began video taping lectures given by our Guatemalan colleagues on such topics as:

  • Mayan Numerology
  • The role of Mayan women in Guatemalan politics
  • Teacher's Unions and the state of Guatemalan education
  • The Mayan Cosmology...etc.

Before leaving for Guatemala, the group raised money for development projects and gathered educational supplies for the schools. This year's group raised over $3,000 and brought down 20 duffle bags of educational supplies.
